Three Squares for CENC: Breaking barriers, building stability, and fueling second chances.

Tap to Read the Overview

The Three Squares for CENC initiative, launched in 2016 by the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina (FBCENC) and the NC Department of Adult Corrections (NC DAC), helps justice-involved individuals transition back into society by connecting them with Food and Nutrition Services (FNS). The program provides application assistance, education, and culturally competent outreach to reduce barriers like misinformation, distrust, and accessibility challenges—improving food security while generating economic benefits through FNS’s multiplier effect.

In its first year, the initiative assisted 412 individuals statewide, 66% outside Wake County, demonstrating strong impact on both individual stability and community wellbeing.
